NOVEMBER-DECEMBER 2007 ACTIVITIES

We have been pretty busy over these past few months, running and supporting campaigns for the 25th November, International End Violence against Women Day, and throughout the 16 days of Activism which follow until the10th December, International Human Rights Day.

Premiership backs the White Ribbon Campaign

Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton, Derby County, Blackburn Rovers are just some of the Premiership teams whose managers who wore white ribbons on Saturday 24th, Sunday 25th and over the following two weeks to show their support for ending violence against women.

Scottish Borders Campaign gains 2,000 pledges

We assisted with the hugely successful Scottish Borders White Ribbon Campaign, which involved The Scottish Borders Community Safety Partnership, through the Domestic Abuse Working Group, promoting the White Ribbon Campaign across the Scottish Borders for a two week period commencing on Monday, 26th November 2007. Throughout this fortnight the campaign aims to collect pledges from men in the Scottish Borders. So far, up to nearly 2, 000 pledges have been collected by men stating that they pledge to “never to condone, commit or remain silent about violence against women”.

Wrexham March and Reclaim the Night 2007

WRC UK, took part in the Wrexham White Ribbon Campaign Street March, involving 100 people took part and causing the traffic to be stopped. WRC UK also supported the massive Reclaim the Night 2007 march through London, which saw 2,000 over 1500 women marching through the centre of London on Saturday 24 November to call for an end to the epidemic of rape and male violence against women.
