Disco Inferno

York St Johns College continued their support for White Ribbon Campaign with every ticket for the major event  of the Music Society providing a 50p donation to White Ribbon Campaign

No to Ignorance Week

The final day of a week long event about Ignorance featuring events on Racism, fascism, Disability and Homophobia held at Manchester University.
A very small attendance at this event but there was still a valuable discussion.The organisers had distributed a lot of posters with the slogan- Think violence against women is a women’s issue ? That’s just ignorance.

Outdoor Events
May Day Community Soccer Festival, Leeds
Our second year of attendance at this event, and later in the month a stand at the Women’s Liverpool fun Run organised by Worst Kept Secret  the regional Domestic Violence Advice Line. 3 or the runners were running to promote the work of White Ribbon Campaign which fitted very well with the aims of Worst Kept Secret.

Next year we hope to have a much larger supportive presence for the event.

Conferences

Men Enough Conference , Scotland
We supported the White Ribbon Scotland group who had a stand at this event by sending up some materials, and I’m sure it won’t be long before they are producing their own materials.

Men’s Active Participation in Combating Domestic Violence
Zagreb.
Chris Green was a Keynote Speaker at this event, and was very gratified to find White Ribbon Campaign singled out for support by both the first and last speakers at the conference who were respectively Rachel Mayanja, Assistant Secretary General of the U.N., and Jadranka Kosor deputy Prime Minister of Croatia and Minister for Family, Veteran’s Affairs and Intergenerational Solidarity.

Northfield Community Safety Partnership
A dynamic afternoon meeting held in Longbridge Birmingham brought together 40 professionals and community activists who are preparing a substantial White ribbon event in this area of Birmingham later in the year. There were some brilliant ideas from some group discussions , such as a Lads and Dads parade down the main street, a White Ribbon calendar featuring local firefighters, and working with local schools and colleges.

Thirsk Soroptimists
A great evening meeting attended by over 40 people, with lots of lively discussion and suggestion for developing the campaign , both locally and nationally. The group also made a donation of £50 towards the campaign as well as buying substantial amounts of merchandise. Some of the men who were there decided to take it up with the Rotary Club to seek a speaking opportunity with them later in the year.
