May Activities

Attendance at National Network
We attended the 2 day meeting of the network of those involved in offering programmes for men who have committed violence against women. We are now in an even better position to work with people planning to set up voluntary programmes for perpetrators.

White Ribbons for European Heads of Football Associations.
The Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly ordered 1000 ribbons and sent them to the Presidents of all the European Football Associations playing in the World Cup.

A letter accompanying it from the Parliamentary Assembly Rapporteur on Stop trafficking in Women before the World Cup demanded that they should not stand aside and simply treat the victims of trafficking as “collateral damage” and called on them to wear a white ribbon to demonstrate their refusal to have anything to do with human trafficking and forced prostitution.

Republica Football Tournament
A small stand at a May Day Football tournament was welcomed by the organisers and players. We can offer loans of banners leaflets and merchandise to volunteers staffing stands at Community events.

Merchandise Development
The office now has a supply of collection boxes and ribbon display boxes for white ribbons. The boxes are self assembly and can be posted to you. The boxes are excellent for counter display and include a built in box for donations.

We’re also in the process of ordering  200,000 peel off ribbons, and 1,000 white ribbon magnets as well as re-stocking on another 50,000 ribbons.

Harrow's White Ribbon 5 a-side football match success
A  five a-side football tournament, organised by the Harrow Domestic Violence Forum and supported by Harrow Council to acknowledge White Ribbon Day 2005, took place on Sunday 20 November at Kodak sports ground.

The aim of Sunday's event was to allow people, men in particular, to express their support against violence towards women, raise awareness of White Ribbon Day and locally promote issues based around domestic violence.

£147 was raised on the day, through the sale of white ribbons and donations. All the proceeds will go to the Children's Education Project - Women's Aid charity.

Six teams took part in the tournament, with the final score at 3:1 the winners were the Watford Coaches although Harrows' Housing Benefits team played a good game.
